Logbook Servicing

When you buy a new bike, the manufacturer provides you with a warranty that protects you from the cost of mechanical failures. This warranty is voided if you don’t have your bike periodically serviced by an accredited mechanic, according to the bike’s logbook.

Servicing and preventative maintenance is not only a fantastic way to save money on bike repairs, it’s crucial for your safety. It’s always better to discover an issue with your bike in the workshop than when a part fails while you’re riding.

Here at Gold Coast Motorcycle Tyres & Mechanical, we offer a comprehensive suite of servicing options, basic, minor, major and logbook, for all 2-stroke and 4-stroke petrol engines.

Inspections & Safety Certificates

If you’re looking to buy, sell, or otherwise transfer registration of a bike, you first have to obtain a Motorcycle Safety Certificate. This certificate, issued by an Approved Inspection Station (AIS) after a thorough inspection, ensures that the bike meets the safety requirements to be legally driven on Queensland roads.

When you’re thinking about buying a secondhand bike, we would recommend bringing it in for a pre-purchase inspection. This inspection ensures you know exactly what you’re buying, and helps you avoid any nasty surprises.

If you’re planning a long ride, or a ride out to somewhere remote, we would urge you to get a pre-trip inspection, for peace of mind, and to prevent any breakdowns out in the middle of nowhere.

Here at Gold Coast Motorcycle Tyres & Mechanical, we are an approved inspection station and can help you with safety certificates, and pre-purchase and pre-trip inspections.

Engine & Clutch Services

It’s important to pay attention to your engine, as it will normally tell you when it’s having issues long before you encounter catastrophic failure. Some important warnings to keep an eye out for are:

  • Engine struggles to start when kicked, but works fine on electric start or bump start
  • Easier kick starting, or reduced resistance when kick starting
  • Oil accumulation in the airbox
  • Oil mist blowing out of the breather when the engine is revved
  • Blue smoke from the exhaust pipe after warm up
  • Ticking or grinding noises

Issues with your engine need to be addressed sooner rather than later, so if you notice any of the warning signs mentioned above, or something else strange, please get it checked as soon as you can.

Cooling System Services

When the radiator fails to cool the engine, overheating occurs. Overheating can be considered an indicator of your bikes overall health. If something else malfunctions on the bike, you can usually expect overheating shortly after.

Excessive overheating degrades the coolant pump, which in turn causes more overheating, which causes more damage to the coolant pump, and so on, causing a feedback loop where the damage keeps mounting exponentially until you cook your bike.

Gold Coast Motorcycle Tyres & Mechanical can help you with:

  • Coolant flush and leak check
  • Thermostat check and replacement
